Meta veteran Sheryl Sandberg has announced to resign from the company’s board

Former chief operating officer and  Meta veteran Sheryl Sandberg has announced to resign from the company’s board of directors once her term concludes in May. She shared this decision in a Facebook post on Wednesday, mentioning that with Meta’s business in a robust state and well-positioned for the future, now is an opportune moment for her to step back. Sandberg expressed her commitment to continue serving as an adviser to the company.

In response to Sandberg’s announcement, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressed anticipation for a “new chapter together.” Sandberg’s decision to step down comes after a tenure of over 14 years as the company’s chief operating officer, coupled with 12 years as a member of its board. It’s noteworthy that Sandberg had previously resigned from her role as Meta’s operations chief in 2022.

Sheryl Sandberg, once the second-in-command to Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg, held a prominent position as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at the company. Prior to her role at Facebook, she served as the vice president of Global Online Sales and Operations at Google and worked as the chief of staff for the United States Treasury Department during President Bill Clinton’s tenure.

Sandberg was a key figure in shaping Facebook’s business model, which primarily relies on advertising but has faced criticism. Despite the controversies surrounding the platform, she consistently defended Facebook, asserting that the company was actively learning from its mistakes and refining its tools to better regulate harmful content.
