Australian Open Tennis increases prize money by 13 per cent making it $58.4m

The Australian Open tennis organization has declared a boost in prize money of 10 million Australian dollars ($6.8 million) for the imminent tournament commencing on Jan. 14, 2024 at Melbourne Park.

Tournament director Craig Tiley conveyed in a statement on Friday that the Grand Slam event will now present a total prize pool of 86.5 million Australian dollars which comes to 58.4 million US dollars (. Tiley remarked, “We’ve elevated prize money across all rounds of the Australian Open, with substantial increases in qualifying rounds and the early stages of singles and doubles competitions.”

In Melbourne, first-round qualifiers will experience a 20% rise, receiving 31,250 Australian dollars (around $21,000). Both the men’s and women’s singles champions are set to claim 3.15 million Australian dollars each (about $2.15 million).

The women’s final is slated for Jan. 27, while the men’s final is scheduled for Jan. 28. Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic are the defending champions.

Recently in August the U.S. Open officials announced a record-high total prize money and player compensation of $65 million, currently the highest among the four Grand Slam tournaments.
